My first post. To condense the long an windy path to creating my first site on WordPress, here is what I did:
I bought a domain
I paid for hosting
I downloaded WordPress from wordpress.org
I used the host, built-in installer because the DIY got too complicated
I found a theme I like for the site
I found a multilingual plug-in because I will make this site in English and Spanish
I found an SEO plug in
I used skills from my day job to make a sitemap and customise the design of the website
I created pages
